A word about donations.
To qualify as a gift-in-kind donation an item must be usable and have value. Broken desks, tables missing a leg, furniture missing casters or drawers, can not be considered donations.
The Surplus Exchange is happy to accept good usable office furniture and fixtures. We also accept office supplies. However, we can not accept cubicles, at this time.
Working monitors and all computers are accepted as donations. If your electronics consist of nonworking monitors, or monitors over 5 years old, old printers, scanners, microwaves, televisions and stereo equipment, they will be recycled.
The IRS does not allow us to assign a value to your donation. You will have to fill in that part of your in-kind gift receipt, yourself.
We can not accept electronics that contain refrigerants, have been used in nuclear medicine or wet science. We do not recycle old light bulbs, florescent bulbs or ballasts.
We do not handle building materials or architectural salvage.
If you have any questions, please call us at 816-472-0444. If you have an item you would like to recycle, but it is not something The Surplus Exchange can handle, please consult www.recyclespot.org.
