The Surplus Exchange Answers the Question — What Should I Do With My “Old” Electronics?

The Surplus Exchange is working to develop a solution to the problem of unwanted or broken electronics in the Kansas City community. Surplus is currently working

with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to provide a better alternative for residents of the communities in and around Kansas City than simply dumping these items into commmunity landfills. By utilizing our activities and

reources for processing industrial electronics this project is to demonstrate that similar results can be achieved for processing consumer electronics.

As a Kansas City resident what should I do with my old electronics?

Donate them to The Surplus Exchange. Yes, in many cases your donation is tax deductivel because The Surplus Exchange

is a community 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization. Check with your accountant for determination.

Every year more than 8 million old or broken appliances are discarded. The convenience of buying a new appliance rather

than fixing an old one and avioding the hassle of waiting fora repair is often a choice made by many people. These consumer choices result in a massive amount of stuff being dumped and discarded. The problem is these appliances and

electronics take up too much space in our landfills and most states are increasing the regulations regarding these materials.

The Surplus Exchange promotes reuse and recycling as a means to prevent waste, improve our

communities, and increase the material, educational and occupational well-being of our citizens by taking useful products discarded by those who don’t want them and providing them to those who do.

Electronic items that we

accept are: Computers, T.V.’s, Microwaves, VCR’s, Washers, Dryers, Trash Compactors, Camcorders, and many other electronic goods. The Surplus Exchange can not accept donation of electronics that include chloroflorocarbons –those

items are Refrigerators, Freezers, Air Conditioners, and Dehumidifiers.

The Surplus Exchange is open from 8:30 to 5:00 on Saturday’s for drop-off and donation of all electronics. The sales floors are open 9:00 to 5:00

Tuesday through Saturday.
