According to the U.S. Environmental

Protection Agency, during the past 35 years, the

amount of waste each person creates has almost doubled from 2.7 to 4.6

pounds per day.

Reuse is the second tier of the

environmental hierarchy of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Reuse

is practiced when a product is used more than once, either for the same

purpose or for a different purpose. It is preferable to recycling in that

a product does not require reprocessing before it can be used again.

Surplus Exchange promotes the

reuse of business equipment and furniture as a way of preventing waste and

improving the community.  Business

materials donated to the organization are made available first to the

nonprofit community.  These

agencies spend much less on the desks, chairs, file cabinets, computers

etc. needed for administering an organization, and save their limited

dollars for the programs and people they serve.
