Kansas City's link between industry, charity, and the environment.

The Surplus Exchange is proud to announce that we have passed the final audit process and are now recognised by the Basel Action Network as e-Stewards.  BAN works to prevent the globalization of the toxic chemical crisis. They work in opposition to toxic trade in toxic wastes, toxic products and toxic technologies, that are exported from rich to poorer countries. Alternatively, they work to ensure national self-sufficiency in waste management through clean production and toxics use reductions and in support of the principle of global environmental justice -- where no peoples or environments are dispro-portionately poisoned and polluted due to the dictates of unbridled market forces and trade.

The e-Stewards are North America's most Responsible Recyclers. They have been qualified by BAN staff as recyclers that uphold the Electronics Recycler's Pledge of True Stewardship -- the World's Most Rigorous Environmental and Social Justice Criteria for Recycling e-Waste!

A word about donations.

To qualify as a gift-in-kind donation an item must be usable and have value. Broken desks, tables missing a leg, furniture missing casters or drawers, can not be considered donations.

The Surplus Exchange is happy to accept good usable office furniture and fixtures. We also accept office supplies. However, we can not accept cubicles, at this time.

Working monitors and all computers are accepted as donations. If your electronics consist of nonworking monitors, or monitors over 5 years old, old printers, scanners, microwaves, televisions and stereo equipment, they will be recycled.

The IRS does not allow us to assign a value to your donation. You will have to fill in that part of your in-kind gift receipt, yourself.

We can not accept electronics that contain refrigerants, have been used in nuclear medicine or wet science. We do not recycle old light bulbs, florescent bulbs or ballasts.

We do not handle building materials or architectural salvage.

If you have any questions, please call us at 816-472-0444. If you have an item you would like to recycle, but it is not something The Surplus Exchange can handle, please consult www.recyclespot.org.
